INTRODUCTION

Natural plants play a crucial role in environmental beautification within psychiatric hospital settings by transforming sterile, institutional environments into therapeutic, calming landscapes that promote patient mental well-being/recovery, reduce stress and enhance the well-being of staff and visitors. Through the concept of biophilic design—these natural elements leverage an innate human desire to connect with nature to provide both aesthetic and psychological benefits—plants act as “positive distractions” that reduce stress, anxiety, and patient aggression.
