The Infection Prevention and Control Committee (IPCC) of Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital Benin has continued its enlightenment programme for Staff today September 2nd, 2025. Today’s training is aimed at inculcating the culture of hand washing, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and waste segregation using color code materials when caring out their lawful duties.
The trainers Dr. Ayim Archibong and Dr Etinosa Ikpo appreciated the management of the Hospital led by Dr. I.O Agbonile for making enough materials available for use at the hospital stores while Dr. Archibong educated health professionals on the need to maintain hygiene and reduce the spread of infectious diseases. Dr. Etinosa Ikpo delivered an explicit lecture on the topic: Sorting to Save Lives: Mastering Waste Disposal for Safer Patient Care. The lecture was a practical and an interactive section while she also introduced participants to the use of color coded bins materials such as;
Yellow bag: For Infectious Waste
Red bag: Highly infectious Waste
Brown bag: Chemical Waste
Blue bag: Pharmaceutical Waste
Black bag: General Waste There was a practical demonstration on the proper way to wash our hands and hand sanitization including the correct use and removal of personal protective equipment by Dr. Anthony Usiosefe.
