The Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Benin City, Dr. Imafidon Osama Agbonile, recently received a delegation from the Nigerian Association of Clinical Psychologists (NACP) during a courtesy visit to the hospital. The purpose of the visit was to formally inform Dr. Agbonile of the association’s upcoming 2024 National Scientific Conference themed Mental Health and Access to Justice in Nigeria, scheduled to take place at FNPH Benin from November 18 to 21, 2024.
Welcoming the NACP delegation, Dr. Agbonile expressed his gratitude to the association for choosing FNPH Benin as the venue for this significant national event. He commended the Head of the Clinical Psychology Unit, Dr. J.O. Ariyo, and other clinical psychologists in the hospital for their outstanding contributions to mental health care. He emphasized the symbiotic relationship between psychiatry and clinical psychology and assured the association of the hospital’s unwavering support and collaboration to advance mental health care in Nigeria.
In his remarks, the National President of the NACP, Professor Gboyega E. Abikoye, who led the delegation, expressed appreciation to Dr. Agbonile for the warm reception and commended his leadership and transformative work at FNPH Benin. He formally announced the upcoming scientific conference and the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), which are scheduled to take place on November 20 and 21, 2024. Professor Abikoye also extended an invitation to Dr. Agbonile to attend the conference and solicited continued support from the hospital for the association’s activities.
The visit was attended by key members of FNPH Benin’s management team, including Dr. G.O. Owie, Head of Clinical Services; Pharm. (Mrs.) M.I. Ibhawoh, Director of Pharmaceutical Services; Mr. S.O. Okolo, Principal of the School of Psychiatric Nursing; Mrs. G.E. Obaseki, Head of Nursing Services; and Mrs. R.J. Igbinnosa, Head of Accounts and Finance. The event concluded with a group photograph, marking a successful interaction between the hospital and the association. The forthcoming conference promises to further strengthen the collaboration between mental health professionals in Nigeria and address critical issues surrounding mental health and justice.
