The Medical Laboratory Unit of Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Benin City recently hosted its second annual scientific conference themed “Quality Healthcare Delivery: A Roadmap to Achieving One Health” on October 19-20, 2023, at the hospital’s conference hall. The event brought together diverse healthcare professionals, including Medical Laboratory Scientists, Doctors, Pharmacists, Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, and Administrators.

In his opening remarks, the Medical Director, represented by Dr. J.O. Omoaregba, Head of Clinical Services, commended the unit for organizing the conference and stressed the significance of quality healthcare delivery for optimal health outcomes. He underscored the importance of collaboration among healthcare professionals in providing high-quality patient care.

The conference featured distinguished facilitators such as Professor (Mrs.) E.O. Osime (keynote speaker), Dr. J.O. Omoaregba, Daniel Ugbomoiko, Ph.D., Richard Omoregie, PhD, Ikpo P. Etinosa, Ph.D., Chika Ossai-Ugbah, PhD, Mr. Chijioke Mokogwu, Mr. Celestine Chukwu, and Dr. Onyeka. Topics covered included “Team Bonding for Quality Healthcare Delivery,” “Bioethics and Quality Healthcare Delivery: An Overview,” “Information Management System in Healthcare,” “Overview of Quality Management System and Healthcare Delivery,” “Understanding Emerging and Reemerging Pathogens: The Role of Human Activities,” “Employers’ Psychological, Emotional, and Social Well-being.” `Towards Quality Healthcare Delivery: Addressing Diagnostic Errors in Medical Laboratory Practice` and `Eye Health in the Age of Increased Digitalization`.

Professor Osime, a Hematology/Blood Transfusion Science expert, set the tone for deliberations in her keynote address, emphasizing the paramount importance of quality healthcare delivery and the pivotal role each healthcare professional plays in achieving One Health.

The conference received positive feedback from participants, who expressed satisfaction with the diverse perspectives presented. Dr. Ikpo, Head of the Medical Laboratory Unit, remarked when speaking with the FNPH, Benin news crew, that collaboration among healthcare professionals is necessary for improved patient outcomes. She thanked the Medical Director, Dr. I. O. Agbonile, for his support in organizing this annual event, noting that events like these play a pivotal role in shaping the future of quality healthcare delivery as professionals navigate the complexities of their field.
