The Medical Director of Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Benin City, Dr Imafidon Osama Agbonile, has been honored with the 2023 Role Model in Neuro-Psychiatric Medical Leadership Merit Award. The award was conferred on him on 25th October, 2023 by the “Africa Digest and Nigeria Radar Magazine” but received on his behalf by Dr. J.O. Omoaregba, the Head of Clinical Services of the hospital.
The CEO/Publisher of the aforementioned Media Organisation, Mr. Tony C. Okwunebe commended the Medical Director for his quality leadership as a game-changer and for doing things differently towards repositioning the corporate image of Edo State in the medical sector as well as excellence in healthcare services delivery to patients. While receiving the award, Dr. Omoaregba warmly thanked the Media Organisation for recognizing the good work of the hospital’s management led by Dr. Imafidon O. Agbonile. He noted that mental health in Nigeria was highly stigmatized as people with the illness often refuse to acknowledge it and even when they do, they do not want to seek treatment in a psychiatric hospital because of stigmatization. He then used the medium to appeal to Media Houses to help spread the good news to the populace that mental health illness can be managed.
