Dr. Imafidon O. Agbonile has been serving as the Medical Director/CEO of Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH) Benin for past three years. Since his appointment by the former President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR on October 1, 2020, he has achieved several milestones and received numerous awards and accolades for his outstanding performance.

Under his leadership, the hospital has expanded its services to include general medical services, where minor surgeries, maternity/obstetric services are being rendered. This is a significant achievement as it is the first time in the history of the hospital that it has started taking baby deliveries, surgical intervention, postnatal services, antenatal services, and so on. Dr. Agbonile has also overseen the construction of modern infrastructural buildings and internal road within the hospital premises. He has also been instrumental in promoting staff welfare and procuring modern medical equipment for the hospital.

In recognition of his leadership role in the practice of psychiatry in Nigeria, Dr. Imafidon O. Agbonile was honoured with an award of excellence by the University of Benin Alumni Association (UBAA). He has received awards from various institutions.

Dr. Agbonile’s leadership has helped patients receive treatment for both physical and mental health issues in one place. This has helped to reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues by integrating them into general medical care. The hospital has a well-trained qualified professional workforce to deliver qualitative psychiatry and rehabilitative care to patients.
