Introduction

According to the World Health Organisation, the term Youth refers to the age group between 15-24.

In terms of energy expenditure, sedentary behaviour represents a slight increase in energy expenditure above the resting metabolic rate (i.e. less than 1.5 METs). {1] 

The most prevalent sedentary behaviours include, computer use, desk-based work, watching TV, playing video games, using electronic devices for extended periods and sitting while socialising The fundamental characteristic of these behaviours is that sitting, lying or in a reclining position predominates.

The use of computers, phones, watching TV has become increasingly common worldwide after entering the twenty-first century and this is largely due to social media usage.

Television is the most common entertainment device which is available in most homes and is widely used by young people.

However, the computer/internet is the most valued media among young people because of the wide variety of its use including e-mail, social networking, playing games, watching movies, and searching information.

Differences between screen-based sedentary behavior and total sedentary behavior.
