
The Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako in company of the Permanent Secretary of Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and other top government functionaries on Monday 10th February 2025 visited the Federal Neuro-psychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Benin City. The Minister had earlier that day visited the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) Benin City.
On arrival at the FNPH Benin, he was led by the Medical Director of the hospital on a guided tour round the hospital’s facilities, including the Out-patient Department, Emergency and Assessment, DATER Phase I, Male Ward, College of Nursing Sciences, Molecular Lab, NHIA amongst other ongoing projects. Also present were the Medical Director of Federal Orthopedic Hospital and Fistula Hospital, Benin City,












In his remarks, Dr. Imafidon O. Agbonile, Medical Director of the hospital informed the Dr I.A Salako about the reforms and transformations that had taken place in the hospital including the structural upgrades and staff trainings.
In his comment, Dr. I.A Salako commended Dr. Agbonile, his management team and staff of the hospital for providing quality healthcare delivery adding that he will continue to canvass for an increased funding for the health sector that would help to address some of the challenges facing the sector. “The potentials to do more is high even as I commend you for what you are doing for now. Keep growing”, he noted.
He further remarked that, “the challenge of ‘japa’ in the health sector is mostly an economic challenge, and we will continue address it. Although, the economic problem is practically beyond the health sector, I believe that the trend of the japa syndrome will eventually be reversed”. It is worthy of note that this was the first official visit of the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare since his appointment last year by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
